Can I Build A Home Addition Without A Permit?

Can I Build A Home Addition Without A Permit?

February 15, 2023

If you’re in the beginning stages of planning your home addition you’ve probably got endless questions. Afterall, building something from the ground up is a huge undertaking. It’s an opportunity not everyone gets, so if you’re one of the lucky few who do, you want it done right! That’s where proper permitting comes in.

Maybe you’ve heard there’s ways around building permits for home additions or maybe you’re confident you can do the work on your own with the city being none the wiser about permits. Before you get ahead of yourself though, take a closer look at the permit requirements for your home addition. Weigh the risks with us below and you be the judge.

Can I Build A Home Addition Without Permitting?

In a word, no. You can’t build a home addition without a permit; At least not without consequence. Even so, this doesn’t keep some homeowners from trying and succeeding, either by doing the work themselves or hiring an unethical contractor or handyman. Unfortunately, they’ll find this shortcut presents a slew of problems that could have easily been avoided.

Even if you try to be sneaky and build without a permit (and sometimes it seems much easier to do so), the bottomline is that permits for home additions are there for your safety. The permitting process allows the city to check your plans for flaws and later inspect the work, ensuring it’s up to the safety standards required by the state.

Why People Build Home Additions Without Permitting

  • DIY: The DIY (do it yourself) movement is still going strong with many homeowners taking matters into their own hands. If they can’t do it, they might have a family friend or relative that can. The desire to “do it yourself” coupled with personal connections can lead to building an addition without permit.
  • Cost: The price of obtaining a building permit can deter some from applying for one at all; Though the cost of the permit, generally in the hundreds, is nothing in comparison to the penalties incurred if you’re caught building without one.
  • Timeline: Homeowners with their hearts set on starting their addition as soon as possible might be more prone to bend the rules. Permitting may take a while between submitting the actual plans and application and then waiting on the permit to become available.

Risks of Building a Home Addition Without a Permit

Can a home addition be built without permitting? Sure. Is it your best option in the long run? Certainly not. There’s more than a handful of reasons why building an addition without permit is a risk without rewards. Check out some of these reasons below, noting the consequential and legal ramifications:

  • Loan Obstacles: There’s no guarantee of mortgage companies approving a home’s financing if the home has unpermitted work. This can pose major issues when it comes time to sell (more on that later) or for those who acquired a home without knowledge of the permitting issues.

Lenders will likely require an in depth inspection of the unpermitted work to be submitted with the loan application. Others may only approve the loan if the project can become permitted and then approved by inspectors. Even after all of this, there’s still a chance the loan application will be rejected altogether.

  • Penalties: If making retroactive corrections weren’t enough, building an addition without permit almost always leads to penalties. The cost of these penalties varies based upon exactly what work was done without the permit. Fines for building without permit can be upwards of $600 and into the thousands if the penalty isn’t paid within a certain amount of time.

States like California take accountability to the next level, upping the penalties significantly for any contractors who have been found not using proper permitting. The Contractors State License Board states that penalties can reach up to $5,000 for those operating outside their permitting safety standards.

  • Resale Issues: You may think you worked the system and successfully constructed a home addition without permitting but when it comes time to sell you may think differently. Going into the selling process your home won’t be appraised for as high a value as your square footage deserves since the addition wasn’t done under permits.

Many prospective homebuyers may also become uninterested once they’re made aware of the unpermitted work. It’s mandatory for the current homeowners to report their unpermitted work in the selling process and some buyers might not want to take on the hassle of getting it up to code or the risk of insuring it as is.

  • Insurance Problems: Insurance companies want to be sure that the project they’re insuring has been approved by all the right entities. You’d be hard pressed to find an insurance carrier that doesn’t perform their due diligence with regard to permitting when a homeowner specifically requests build coverage for an addition.

Even if the carrier doesn’t ask for this permitting proof upfront, you’d likely run into problems if you need to make a claim on incidents during the build of the addition. Once they find that it wasn’t properly permitted, you’ll be on the hook to cover the amount of the incident.

Similarly, it’ll be near impossible to find coverage for the addition itself once it’s complete if it was done without permitting. Trying to make a claim with your current carrier for anything falling under this new work will undoubtedly be denied, seen as negligence on your part by the insurance carrier.

  • Faulty Results: One of the biggest risks of building an addition without permit is ending up with a bad final result. The permit application can make certain there’s no potential issues in your design, especially when it comes to structure. Improper foreknowledge can lead to structural instability and lack of other support materials.

The same can be said for virtually any part of the build from the wiring down to the floors. At the end of the day, a project of this size requiring this much time, effort, and money should produce a perfect product. There’s no need to risk any other outcome.

Conclusion

While building an addition without permit might be a tempting prospect, don’t take the easy way out in exchange for instant gratification. Make sure the work is done right by obtaining the proper permitting and in turn, protecting yourself and your home in the process.

FAQ

What if an honest mistake was made and I did not get a permit accidentally?

If you’re doing the work yourself and aren’t well versed on the ins and outs of the build process, mistakes are anticipated. Albeit, not permitting a home addition is a rather large and often costly mistake to make. If the damage is already done though and you’ve started the build without a permit, you may be wondering, “Can I get a permit after remodeling”. In short, yes. It is possible to retroactively permit the work.

Contacting your city is the best place to start. They’ll direct you to whatever paperwork is necessary which should resemble the permitting paperwork you should have filled out from the start. A retroactive build permit can be issued once the city confirms that your project design and product are up to snuff.

What’s the process for obtaining a permit for my home addition?

The process of getting your home addition building permit is fairly straightforward. You’ll want to check your city’s requirements, most of which start with a design and a full set of plans (blue prints) which will be required for the application. Once complete, you’ll file your application and the city will review your plans and request.

Usually there is some back and forth between city departments (building and planning) for minor corrections including new codes or ordinances. Upon approval, you’ll be issued an RTI (ready to issue) and then a permit can be pulled. Lucky for you, when you use a contractor they take care of this entire process, making it seamless for you!

The permitting process doesn’t end once you have it in hand though. Keep in mind, you’ll have to pass multiple inspections throughout the process and a final inspection when it’s all said and done. This comes in the form of three different inspections to include building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical. Again, in the end the permitting really does act as a safety mechanism for you.

Though sometimes a long process, you’ll be able to rest assured that your project was done correctly and the final product is safe for you and your family.

How long does it take to get a permit and how long will it last?

Once everything is filed, it can take about 3 to 6 months to receive your building permit. Keep in mind this number can be a “give or take” scenario depending on your county and the overall scope of the project being reviewed.

As far as expiration goes, if you stick to your timeline you shouldn’t need to worry about re-applying for a permit. Building permits for home additions will remain good for 1 to 2 years. So long as your team begins the building process within 6 months after receipt of the permit, you’ll be good to go.

What if my home addition is attached to the current home. Does it need a permit?

Home additions don’t necessarily have to be detached from the main home itself. Many of these additions come in the form of ADUs or accessory dwelling units that are considered additions in themselves. They can be a garage conversion, finished basement, or added floor.

All of the home additions above do require a permit to build. Since these additions still require installation of plumbing, electrical, and building materials, they need to be up to code and properly inspected. All of which will occur with the help of a permit.

5 Tall Kitchen Pantry Cabinet Ideas That Create a Unique Full Wall Effect

5 Tall Kitchen Pantry Cabinet Ideas That Create a Unique Full Wall Effect

One of the first things people look at in a home is the kitchen. From family meals to friendly get togethers, it seems to be the one room of the house everyone ends up in. Being that it’s the heart of the home, it’s easy to see why. It’s because of this that it’s no surprise the kitchen is often the first task on the remodel list.

Tall kitchen pantry cabinets are rising in popularity for these remodels and for good reason. Often stretching floor to ceiling, they’re not just a place to store items; They’re a statement piece that’s impossible to go unnoticed.

Are you considering full wall pantry cabinets for your home? Look no further! Stick around and find out why these tall kitchen cabinet ideas are sure to make your kitchen the envy of the neighborhood.

Pros of Wall Pantry Cabinet Ideas

  • Plenty of Storage: The level of storage full wall pantries offer is by far their bigger advantage. You’ll no longer have to choose between what goes into the pantry cabinets and what has to be stored elsewhere.
  • Accessibility: Full wall pantries provide much more accessibility as well. Sure, you’ll have the higher cabinets filled with lesser used items, but the ones at standing level offer ease of use all year round.
  • Overall Aesthetic: The full wall effect of this design makes for a truly customized look that you don’t see in every kitchen. The height of the cabinetry accentuates the ceiling height, making the room feel big.
  • Versatile Interiors: Tall kitchen cabinet ideas aren’t minted to just regular shelving inside, though they can if that’s what you’d like. You can also install pull out wire baskets for food storage or wood drawers for everyday items.

Cons of Wall Pantry Cabinet Ideas

  • Added Expense: Unfortunately these tall beauties come at a cost. It’s no secret the cost of wood has gone up; That fact aside, just the sheer added amount of custom cabinetry needed to create this look will add up quickly.
  • Loss of Counter Space: In the case of full wall pantry cabinets, you have to give space to get space. It just depends on which kind matters to you most. With cabinets spanning the full length of the wall, you’ll lose counter space in some areas.
  • Lack of Vertical Storage: It might seem impossible that you’d have less vertical storage when the cabinetry takes up the full wall, but it’s true. With the limited ability to move internal shelving, you may be stuck storing some things sideways.

1. Appliance Hideaway

The extra storage created by tall kitchen pantry cabinets isn’t just for food and kitchenware. You can use the space as a small appliance hideaway for commonly used items like microwave or coffee makers. They’re incredibly convenient when it comes to other appliances you put on the counter weekly too but you’d like to store out of sight when they’re not in use.

In the example above, they chose to go with hinged, half folding doors which make the entire interior space completely accessible. The half doors folding keep their width from stretching beyond the counter, making them easy to move around. A shaker style with a gray finish and gold pulls, this pantry wall is both subtle and stunning.

2. Floor to Ceiling Cabinets and Drawers

If the main goal for your kitchen pantry cabinets is space then the floor to ceiling style is for you. High cabinets can be used traditionally for seasonal items where the mid level ones and below offer nearly endless storage for kitchenware and beyond. The cabinets aren’t the only highlight of this pantry wall though.

The addition of plenty of drawer space is unparalleled. No more having to decide what gets a drawer and what doesn’t. In this kitchen, bright white carpentry is finished off with crown molding adding an upscale feel. Coupled with dark flooring, the contrast is a complete knockout.

3. Sleek Push to Open System

Depending on style, some homeowners prefer a more sleek and minimal look. The push to open pantry wall systems can provide just that. These types of tall kitchen cabinets usually split into less sections than a normal cabinet system too; Some cabinet faces even come as one solid panel.

The kitchen above shows the best attributes of the push to open system, one being the lack of cabinet pulls on the faces of the doors; The other being the smooth and sleek finish. Both coupled together give the entire pantry wall a polished and modern design with soft, clean lines.

4. Fridge Integration

The idea of major kitchen appliances being made to blend in is a newer concept but one that seems to be gaining momentum. Some people prefer a cohesive look without the differentiation in color and material that large appliances bring to a space. It’s for that reason that fridge integration is extremely common when installing a full wall pantry.

In this kitchen, the fridge goes almost completely undetected. Appearing as a larger cabinet face with drawers below, the fridge meshes with the surrounding white cabinetry for a seamless look. While the larger pulls on the fridge itself might give it away, it’s still able to blend with the surrounding brushed nickel pulls elsewhere.

5. Touches of Luxury

One of the best elements of a full pantry wall is how customizable it is. You don’t have to stick to one color, texture, or design format. You certainly don’t have to sacrifice touches of luxury for added cabinet space. You can have the best of both worlds!

The kitchen above is proof that there’s no one way to fill kitchens with tall cabinets for storage. An elongated fireplace adorns this pantry wall creating a unique and homey cook space. If a fireplace isn’t your style you can dress up the cabinet faces using another material or try more opulent cabinet pulls to achieve a more luxurious feel.

Conclusion

Kitchens with tall cabinets take any cooking space to the next level between storage and aesthetics alone. With only a few cons to consider, they’re well worth the investment. You don’t want to risk a project of this scope alone though. That’s where Structura Remodeling comes in!

FAQ

What if some of the cabinet depths make it hard to see inside?

A common concern with pantry walls is the lighting inside. Depending on the depth of the cabinetry it may be hard to find items inside, especially if you’re searching for something in the back half. Even so, there’s a handful of fixes that fix this problem before it becomes a concern.

In the building process, you can request that your contractor drop some sort of lighting in each set of cabinets. If you’re looking for a more simple solution, there’s plenty of battery operated options like light strips of puck lights that can be applied to the tops of the cabinets with a simple adhesive pad.

Speaking of cabinet depth, what’s the proper depth for cabinets on a pantry wall?

The normal depth of cabinetry generally falls into one of two dimensions: either 12 inches deep or 24 inches deep. For reference, it’s worth noting that the 12 inch depth is usually used for the upper half of a normal cabinet layout with the 24 inch depth making up the bottom set of cabinetry. A normal layout meaning space underneath the top cabinetry, generally with a wall underneath embellished with backsplash down to the countertop where the next set of wider cabinets begin.

With a full wall system this isn’t always the case though. Depending on which design you choose and how much space you’re actually looking for, you might have all 12 inch deep cabinets or all 24 in deep cabinetry. As mentioned above, full wall pantries are completely customizable, leaving everything (depth included) up to you!

Will these wall pantry cabinet ideas add value to my home?

Let’s face it, some upgrades current homeowners love don’t turn out to be winners in the eyes of others when it comes time to sell. You definitely don’t want to make the mistake of investing a boatload of money into a project that will inevitably leave you with a low ROI or under appraisal.

While it’s hard to say with one hundred percent certainty that these full wall pantries will add value to a home, it’s a safe bet for one reason: storage. Prospective homeowners are always looking at a home’s level of storage and traditionally extra storage has shown to produce a high ROI for homes. It’s because of this that you can consider your full wall pantry a worthy investment.

Signs Your Bathroom Needs Remodeling

Aesthetics aside, there’s some tell tale signs that your bathroom is probably in need of a remodel. Take a look at the list below and if your bathroom suffers from several of these issues, it’s time to start planning for updates.

  • Cracked tilework: In the shower, on the floor, or the walls it can be dangerous.
  • Stained or cracked tub: Could cause leaks or injury if its created sharp surfaces.
  • Peeling paint: Excess moisture can cause peeling and damage to walls.
  • Leaking fixtures: Leaking may cause water damage to surrounding surfaces.
  • Rusty fixtures: A sign of serious wear and tear that’s not pleasing to the eye.
  • Mold stains: Mold spores are likely still present if stains won’t go away.
  • Safety hazards: Poor lighting, high tub threshold, and no grab bars are red flags.
  • Plumbing issues: Corrosion of old piping could cause back ups or leaks.
  • Electrical issues: New wiring decreases fire risk and offers more power.
  • Uneven or damaged flooring: Slip and falls are common in bathrooms, even more so if you have ignored flooring issues.

Benefits of a Bathroom Remodel in Your Los Angeles Home

The benefits of a bathroom remodel go far beyond the obvious of improved aesthetics. There’s plenty of benefits that’ll have you ready to get your remodel started ASAP!

  • ROI: The ROI, or return on investment, is how much you’ll gain in profit from your bathroom remodel when it comes time to sell. Remodeled bathrooms are a highlight of any home on the market; If you’re smart with the re-design and materials used, you’ll stand to gain a pretty penny on the other end.
  • Efficiency: Older toilets, shower heads, and faucets don’t just pose an aesthetic problem but also an efficient one. They have a tendency to use more water and energy which can take a toll on your wallet and the environment. Replacing all main facets of your bathroom in the remodeling process stands to fix this issue.
  • Functionality: Many bathrooms suffer from a lack of functionality whether that’s in the form of wasted space, lack of storage, or poor design. An amazing advantage of bathroom remodels is the ability to create a layout that remedies all three of those problems while making it completely customized to your style.
  • Safety: Bathrooms have their fair share of hazards, especially when outdated. Old flooring, toilets, or pipes can cause leaks which lead to dangerous mold. Outdated tubs with high siding to step over are known to cause terrible falls. Updating is a benefit that helps mitigate these common risks.

6 Factors to Consider in Your Bathroom Remodel

Before you get started on your bathroom remodel, you’ll want to consider some factors that will greatly affect not only the finished product but the total cost. Keep these in mind throughout the planning process to ensure there’s no surprises in the end.

  1. Materials: Choosing the materials for a remodel is arguably the most fun part of the project. Selecting each and every color, texture, and wood grain allows you to create a bathroom that meets even the most intricate of visions. Even so, the most budget friendly materials will add up. Not to mention, some materials come at a much higher cost than others. For example, marble looks great in any bathroom but it’s likely to eat up a lot of your material budget. Likewise, you’ll have to prioritize materials like tubs, cabinetry, vanities, fixtures and the like; Especially if your project is a budget remodel.
  1. Scheduling: Start thinking about a timeframe when this project is actually feasible for you and your family. Picking a slower season will make the process a lot less stressful for all involved. Also, have in mind your expectations and timeline for the bathroom remodel and bring that to your contractor when you’re interviewing them. This gives them an idea of what you’re looking for and allows them to tell you what’s realistic based upon the scope of the work.
  1. Scope: Speaking of the scope of the work, you’ll need to think in depth about all aspects of your bathroom renovation. Begin to contemplate the design and materials. Are you wanting to move any walls to create more square footage? Will you switch out the tub? What fixtures will you install? From top to bottom, make a to-do list. If you’re unsure where to start, it’s best to consult your contractor. They will likely have a checklist and 3D software to help you make your final decisions on everything from wall color to flooring.
  1. Fee Structure: Fees pertaining to specific labor needs, the contractor, timeline overages and the like can send any well budgeted remodel into a tailspin. Structura Remodeling takes the guesswork out of the equation up front, utilizing a one lump sum contract price that puts others to shame. Unlike other contractors, they’re not looking to surprise you with fees or nickel and dime you when the moment presents itself. Their lump sum price includes the use of subcontractors, designers, project managers, labor, and rough materials with complete transparency on total costs.

Other contractors may have fees built into their contractor for project delays as well; Not so with Structura! If a delay causes them to go over the approximate timeline given for the project, there’s no fee. In fact, they pride themselves on being proactive in the pre-construction phase to mitigate this possibility altogether. By prepping material lists, requesting the homeowners selections, and pre-purchasing materials they’re able to avoid unnecessary delays that many other contractors would try to turn into a pay day.

  1. Budget: Finally, the budget is a key factor to consider, albeit not the most fun one. Your budget is going to be the driving force behind everything that happens in your bathroom remodel. What contractor you can afford, the type of materials, the scope of the project, literally everything! Know how much you can realistically spend on the project and from there, you can create a plan.
  1. Los Angeles Trends: When you remodel, it’s important to know what’s going on in your neighborhood with regard to trends. If you plan to stay in your house for good, then using any style and material you like is probably a safe bet. However, if it’s not your forever home and you plan to sell within the next five to ten years, it’s crucial to think ahead.

Find out what’s popular, what might attract most people, even aiming for materials that have always been timeless. That way, when you go sell your home your property has far more appeal. If you’re not sure what’s on trend in the Los Angeles area, your contractor can help! After all, they’re the ones involved in local building and remodeling. They can help direct you to the designs and styles that will stay on trend for years to come.

Cost to Remodel a Bathroom in Los Angeles by Size

The most common way to measure the average cost to remodel a bathroom in Los Angeles is going to be by size. As you may have guessed, under most circumstances, the bigger the bathroom the bigger the cost. Though as with any remodel, that hinges on the finishing materials used. At any rate, you can get a basic idea of your remodel costs below based on the size of the bathroom you’re remodeling.

Half Bathroom or Powder Room – $8,000 to $10,000

  • 1-2 fixtures

  • Sink
  • Small vanity

Full Bathroom – $25,000 to $30,000

  • 3-4 fixtures

Cost to Remodel a Bathroom in Los Angeles by Finish Level

Your bathroom remodel cost can be estimated based on finish level too, not just size. Finish level referring to the type of materials used to complete the project. Are you going the budget route and re-finishing materials? Maybe you’re aiming on the higher end for all new vanities or luxury fixtures. Whatever your budget, the overall  cost to remodel a bathroom in Los Angeles can be estimated by the finish levels below.

Budget Bathroom Remodel – $15,000 to $20,000

If you’re looking to remodel your Los Angeles bathroom but you’re working within a budget, you’ve still got plenty of options. For starters, the average price for a budget bathroom remodel falls between $15,000 and $20,000. The simplest way to stay within that range comes down to your material selections. Think engineered woods, paint, a replacement vanity countertop or hardware. All noticeable changes with huge impact.

Other examples include selecting prefabricated or re-purposed counters and cabinets. Focus on fixtures within your price range too, which shouldn’t be tough as they come in a wide variety of finishes and prices. Lighting fixtures are a good place to start. Often there are replicas of higher-end fixtures that will give you the feel you want at a more affordable price. The same goes for faucets, towel holders, and the like.

Mid-Range Bathroom Remodel – $25,000 to $30,000

With a more flexible renovation budget, you can really take things to the next level with a mid-range bathroom remodel. The average estimate for a mid-range bathroom remodel is approximately $25,000 to $30,000. Some of the differences you’ll see with a renovation at this price point are new, upgraded cabinetry, shower fixtures, and an expanded variety of counter and flooring materials.

For instance, the cost of certain tiles and stones for counters, flooring, and showers may now be well within reach. At the mid-range level you can replace a vanity, create more storage, tile the shower; You’ve got much more opportunity. These upgraded selections alone open up new design possibilities, especially when considering your bathroom’s overall flow and style.

High-End Bathroom Remodel – $75,000 to $100,000

If your budget isn’t holding you back at all, it’s time to create the bathroom of your dreams with a high-end bathroom remodel. The average estimate for a high-end bathroom renovation is between $75,000 and $100,000. The cool thing about a remodel of this magnitude is the complete transformation; Gutted to create your own oasis, it’ll be an entirely new room, particularly when it comes to space. You can increase the square footage of your bathroom, leaving behind the cramped space and impractical design.

With this new square footage you’ll be able to include both a stand-up shower and a soaking tub. Aside from the obvious material upgrades in stones, marbles and the like, you’ll get to hone in on the luxuries of high end fixtures, plumbing, and technology. Customize your shower with light, sound, and temperature settings programmable by you.

Add a rain shower with steam functions and mood lighting for a home spa experience. You could also choose to incorporate eco-friendly aspects like skylights, recycled materials, or an upgraded water heater. Top it off with a sauna, towel warmer, or heated towel racks and you’ve truly created an unbeatable bathroom experience.

FAQs

Are permits needed to remodel a bathroom in the Los Angeles area?

Permits can be tricky seeing as they vary from city to city based on local requirements. Even so, if you’re doing a complete bathroom overhaul you can expect to need a permit. Especially if you’re moving walls or doing something to the structural integrity of the home.

Some contractors like to say if you have to open up any part of the wall, you probably need a permit. Regardless, this is where your contractor comes in handy. They know all the ins and outs of permitting, so you can rest assured your project will be up to all appropriate standards.

Can I finance my bathroom remodel?

Renovating a bathroom can be expensive but there’s plenty of financing options if you don’t have the cash on hand. Renovation loans are also fairly common; They offer fair requirements like low credit score and small down payments, so they’re a viable choice.

HELOCs or a home equity line of credit are also a great financing option for several reasons, no closing costs and lower interest rates being among a few. Government programs are another option. Though a little harder to navigate, they’re worth the hassle if you meet the loan requirements.

What’s the sequence for remodeling a bathroom?

After hiring your contractor and planning everything, you may be wondering how things progress from there. There’s a general sequence of events that happen during a bathroom remodel, the first being the demolition process. Your team will start gutting the bathroom, removing all old materials to make way for the new.

Next up after that is the plumbing. During this phase you may see a new shower pan installed or rerouting of plumbing pipes if you’re changing the bathroom’s layout. From there your team will start on electrical needs. Switching out circuits, moving vent fans, relocation of outlets, things of that nature.

Afterward, you’ll really start seeing things take shape as drywall and paint go up and tile can start being installed. Now it’s time to bring in the bigger pieces like fixtures, tubs, vanities and eventually the toilet.

How can I prepare my bathroom for remodel?

First things first, brainstorm your goals. Have an idea of the style and overall outcomes you’re looking for. This will help out a lot when it comes time to start interviewing contractors. You’ll be prepared to give them a snapshot of what you’re looking for while also determining if their timeline, skill level, and fee fit your needs.

Once you’ve decided on a contractor and agreed on a start date, it’s time for you to prep the space for work. Move everything out of the bathroom to avoid delays on the start date. Moveable furnishings, shower curtains, toiletries, bath mats, get it all out of the way. Don’t forget to clean out spaces inside of the cabinets or drawers as well.

Is there part of a bathroom remodel that’s most expensive?

There’s many opinions on which part of a bathroom remodel ends up being most expensive. Most would say labor, but the cost of labor is just the cost of getting things done right, not really an aspect of the actual remodel process. That said, plumbing turns out to be one of the more expensive parts of a bathroom remodel.

Fitting pipes and handling the main waste line or even moving it means a lot of work for the plumber and contractor alike. Rearranging the layout also comes at a high cost if you’re having to move water sources, walls, and other permanent fixtures.
